You are right! Producers form the base of all food webs. They change the sun's energy during photosysthesis so energy gets stored in the plants and plantlike protists in the form of chemical energy. Sunlight starts the flow of energy in a pond ecosystem. This energy can then be passed through a food web, from one organism to another.
