Freshwater Sponges
Freshwater sponges draw water into many small openings called porocytes. Food carried with the water is filtered out and the water is pushed out of the sponge. They feed on plantlike protists and animallike protists, as well as organic matter that can be found floating in the water.
Small fish, snails and insect larvae all use the freshwater sponges as a food source.
